Silent Hunter 5 was supposed to be the creme de la creme of the Silent Hunter Series back in 2010. It flopped because it was unfinished, had silly new 'characters', and essentially destroyed its credibility.However, thanks to some incredibly dedicated and talented people in the Subsim.com Community, as of 2015, the game has been completely overhauled.

It is absolutely stunning, realistic, has beautifully improved graphics, and game play that is bar none the best Subsim I have ever seen.The Overhaul, luckily, has been produced as a single MegaMod that you install. It is called Wolves of Steel.
It basically incorporates about 85 separate mods into a single Mod. The Wolves of Steel version of SH5 is as easy or complex as you want it to be. But, you need only install one MegaMod, and it fixes everything.Played at 100% realism, this is essentially as real as it gets. But can be played with the same ease as Silent Hunter 4. And, yes, we can once again set up our own little private servers for games, or, alternatively, use Ubisoft's Online server.One of the most brilliant aspects of the game is that it incorporates the Officers, Music, Introduction, Voices and Sound Effects from the movie Das Boot. It even has, besides the Gramophone, a real working radio that picks up stations from all over Europe depending on your location. And the radio voices, reports and music are the actual broadcasts from 1939 to 1945.Everything is customizable to your liking, thanks to a sub member called Darkwraith, who redesigned the entire submarine and equipment.

You can even see moisture at times on the instruments and dials. These are the exact historical replicas and there is more equipment and stations that you can use if you so wish.
Again, you can make it as easy as our SH4 battles or all the way up to 110% realism.If you decide to purchase it, DO NOT DO SO THROUGH STEAM!! As is typical with their servers, they screw up mods or preclude altogether very much in the way that they did SkyRim.
